cPanel Hosting or Managed Hosting: Which Does Your Business Need?

Illustration of a hosting control panel, servers and connected backup and support tools

When you compare hosting packages, it is easy to focus on storage, email accounts and the monthly price. But one of the most useful questions is simpler: who is going to look after the website?

Do you want access to the control panel so you can manage the technical details yourself, or would you rather ask someone to handle the maintenance and everyday website changes? Both are reasonable choices. The right package depends on how involved you want to be.

At Nexar Web Services, our UK hosting options include cPanel hosting and managed website hosting. Here is how to think about the difference.

cPanel is a control panel, not a maintenance plan

cPanel gives you access to tools for your hosting account. Depending on the package, these can include website files, databases, email accounts, domain settings and backups.

That access is useful if you are comfortable managing a website or have someone who does it for you. You can work directly with the account rather than request every small hosting change.

However, having cPanel does not automatically mean that someone is updating the website software, checking a broken page or adding your latest project photographs. Those responsibilities depend on the support included in the chosen plan.

Nexar’s Premium cPanel option also includes WordPress help. If you want control but need assistance from time to time, we can explain that option alongside fully managed hosting rather than assume the two are identical.

Managed hosting brings the website care into the service

Managed website hosting is for businesses that want the hosting and agreed website care handled together. Instead of receiving an account login and taking on every technical task, you have a clear place to ask for help.

Nexar’s managed packages cover the hosting account, WordPress maintenance, email setup and the agreed level of content support. They are designed for websites built by Nexar and suitable existing websites accepted after a review.

That review matters. An existing website may have paid plugins, a specialist booking system or another supplier’s integration. We need to understand those arrangements before confirming what can be supported and moved.

What do Nexar’s managed plans cost?

Our current managed hosting options include:

  • Standard: £27 per month. Everyday care for a Nexar-built website, including maintenance and page updates such as text and images when required.
  • Large: £37 per month. For websites needing more regular product, event, banner or page changes.
  • Bespoke: from £85 per month. A tailored scope for more demanding websites, frequent updates or a more involved support schedule.

The hosting packages page sets out the current inclusions. New features, substantial development and paid external services should be discussed rather than assumed to be part of routine maintenance.

What is shared between the hosting routes?

Choosing managed hosting is not simply a choice between a website being protected or unprotected. Nexar’s listed packages share a UK hosting foundation, SSL and daily backups with 60-day retention. The main difference is the level of website management and support around that foundation.

Backups are valuable, but they are not the same as active maintenance. A backup can help recover a previous copy; it does not write a missing service page, update your opening information or explain why a form has stopped working.

Likewise, an SSL certificate protects the connection to the website. It does not mean that every plugin, password or third-party service can be ignored. The management responsibilities still need to be clear.

Five questions to ask before choosing

1. Who will update the website software?

Confirm who is responsible for the core website system, themes and plugins, including any compatibility checks. Do not assume this is included just because the hosting account uses cPanel.

2. Who will make ordinary content changes?

If you want to send new text or photographs for someone else to add, ask which plan covers that work. A business that changes products and events frequently may need a different level of support from a small, mostly static site.

3. What happens when something breaks?

Ask how to report a problem, what support is included and what needs a separate quotation. It is better to understand that before a customer discovers an issue.

4. What happens to the email?

A hosting move does not have to mean an unplanned email move. Existing mailboxes, external email services and domain records should be reviewed before changes are made.

5. Can the current website be supported?

Provide the current web address and explain any important features. A shop, booking system or custom application needs a different assessment from a simple brochure website.

What if the website was built with AI?

An AI-created website may need help finishing the setup before ordinary hosting is the right question. The design could be ready while the forms, domain, email or supporting services still need work.

Our separate AI Web Hosting service is £35 per month and includes hands-on setup and an agreed rebuild using your existing AI design where needed. Special features and additional development may be quoted separately. It is a distinct offer, not the same package as Standard or Large managed hosting.

Choose the service that fits the way you want to work

If you want direct control and are happy handling the website, cPanel hosting may suit you. If you would prefer Nexar to handle the hosting and agreed website care together, discuss a managed plan.

You do not have to decide from a package name alone. Compare Nexar’s hosting packages, send us your website address through Contact & Support, or call 07872 326085. We can explain the options before anything is moved.
